What Does Gamban Block?

Gamban blocks the following categories of websites/apps:

Gambling Websites & Apps

Online gambling (or Internet gambling) or any kind of gambling conducted on the internet has a proven history of causing significant gambling-related harm to many people and in many cases has destroyed families and lives.

With this in mind, Gamban blocks the following types of gambling websites:

  • Poker
  • Casinos
  • Sports Betting (Sports Books)
  • Table Games
  • Esports

Skin Gambling

Skin gambling is the use of virtual goods, often cosmetic in-game items such as “skins”, as a virtual currency to bet on the outcome of professional matches or on other games of chance. Skin gambling has been proven to cause gambling-related harm (especially amongst young people) and as a result, Gamban blocks such websites.

Social Casinos

A social casino such as online gambling-related games are played through a social network/media platform using virtual currency (fake money). Virtual currency can either be offered free or paid for by the player but cannot be converted back into real money. Gamban blocks some free social games (FSGs), in cases where in-game ‘virtual coins’ can be purchased with no real monetary value.

Trading Platforms (As of 01/09/2021)

Following research and investigation into the risks of trading, we found an overwhelming proportion of the general public viewed speculating on cryptocurrency as a form of gambling. The report can be found here. In the interest of our users, who have experienced harm from gambling, we have decided that these sites should be blocked by Gamban. Gambling affiliates that work to promote or otherwise encourage Gambling.

What Gamban Does NOT Block

Adverts

Gamban does not block gambling adverts. To help you block gambling advertisements, we recommend installing ad-blocking software.

Pornography

Gamban does not block pornography or porn-related websites.

Investment Websites

Gamban does not block long-term investment websites and apps that do not offer speculative, high-risk products and services in volatile markets.

Loot Boxes

A loot box is a consumable virtual item that can be redeemed to receive a randomised selection of further virtual items, or loot, ranging from simple customization options for a player’s avatar or character to game-changing equipment such as weapons and armour. Players often purchase loot boxes for a chance of receiving high tier loot and in many cases, this has caused gambling-related harm.

Can You Choose What Is Blocked?

It is not possible to choose what content is blocked; all gambling content will be blocked upon installation. It won’t be possible to keep access to poker or trading accounts, for example. We strongly recommend that any assets you hold in any account listed above are withdrawn before you install Gamban on your device(s).
